In 1993 the Centre was founded as “Caffè Culturale”. In 2004 the name was changed to “Piccola Università Italiana” it has been recognized with presa d’atto prot 23860/P from 30.11.04 by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research. The Centre is located in the heart of Tropea in a beautiful house typical of the area. Lessons are held in classrooms or else out on the terrace. The Italian Language and Culture Centre in Tropea, not far from Capo Vaticano, is staffed by language teachers who are all native speakers and university graduates with years of experience behind them. Our staff are experts in teaching their own languages to students, business people, and lovers of the Italian language and culture from overseas.
Tropea is a charming medieval town of 7000 inhabitants situated at the neck of the "Boot" at the same latitude as the famous Eolean islands. Italians refer to it affectionately as the "Pearl of Calabria". Here you will find an unspoiled countryside with lush green vegetation creating a stunning contrast to the deep blue of the crystal water. The town is built on a rock which rises 42 meters from the sea and every visitor cannot but be charmed by its romantic winding lanes. The town itself offers a range of exceptional shopping opportunities, with a marketplace and many attractive bars and restaurants.
The superb sandy beaches together with a huge selection of sports and leisure activities worth visiting present many options to lovers of sport and culture. Tropea remains very much an Italian town and is not crowded with tourists. You will therefore have plenty of opportunity to listen and apply the language outside of school as well.
